Everything You Need To Know About NC Health Choice for Children

Suppose you’re not eligible for Medicaid but can’t afford rising health insurance premiums. In that case, you may be eligible to get free or cheap health care for your children. NC Health Choice for Children offers the same level of coverage as what children of state employees and teachers receive. Keep reading to find out if you’re eligible.

What is NC Health Choice for Children?

Health Choice for Children is a health insurance option for children from low-income families. In North Carolina, the program offers comprehensive health coverage for children. Families who don’t qualify for Medicaid and can’t afford employer-sponsored or private health insurance may be eligible for NC Health Choice, which could be an excellent option to ensure coverage for your children.

NC Health Choice for Children coverage offers outpatient care and hospitalization. Some of the main benefits include regular checkups, dental care, counseling, prescriptions, eye exams and glasses, hearing exams and hearing aids, and other services.

What are the eligibility requirements?

To find out if you’re eligible, get in touch with your local Department of Social Services caseworker. Your eligibility is based on several factors, including age, health needs, resources, and income level. Your caseworker can determine if you’re eligible for NC Health Choice or even if you’re eligible for Medicaid.

To be eligible, you need to be a North Carolina resident and be able to prove your residency. You also must be a US citizen, national, or a non-citizen who has been legally admitted into the US. In addition, you must be ineligible for Medicaid, uninsured, and have a social security number (or have applied for one). Finally, you must be either 18 years or younger or be a primary caregiver with children aged under 18 years old.

The income level limits vary depending on the number of people in your household. For example, a household of three people can earn a maximum annual income of $46,060. At the same time, a family of six needs to earn less than $74,380. These figures are before taxes.

How do I apply?

You can apply for the program several ways. You may contact your local social services department or your local health department, or you can apply online. When applying, you’ll need to complete a simple application form. The information you provide will determine if your child is eligible for Medicaid and, if not, whether they’re eligible for NC Health Choice. If your child meets all the necessary criteria, you’ll be approved for coverage. Expect to receive a health card in the mail, a benefits booklet, and instructions on accessing your benefits. Your child is then eligible to receive care via the Health Choice program.

Unlike Medicaid, the program has limited funds, so it is open on a first-come basis. If the program in your area is full, your child’s name will be added to a waitlist until a spot becomes available so it’s a good idea to apply early.
