Medigap Plan F provides the most comprehensive coverage for Original Medicare gaps, including hospital deductibles, Part B coinsurance/excess charges, and foreign travel emergencies. Available only to those eligible before January 1, 2020. Our NC agents help compare Plan F with alternatives like Plan G.
Medigap Plan F is a Medicare Supplement plan that provides the most extensive coverage available, helping pay for gaps in Original Medicare (Parts A and B). However, it is no longer available to new Medicare enrollees.
Important Note: As of January 1, 2020, Plan F is no longer available to anyone newly eligible for Medicare. If you were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020 (even if you delayed enrollment), you may still qualify to purchase Plan F.
To enroll, you must be enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B. If you became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020, Plan F is not an option—consider Plan G or other Medigap plans instead.
Plan F includes the following benefits:
Medicare Part A:
Coinsurance and hospital costs (up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are exhausted)
Hospice care coinsurance or copayment
Part A deductible
Medicare Part B:
Coinsurance or copayment
Part B deductible
Part B excess charges (up to 15% extra if a provider doesn’t accept Medicare assignment)
Other:
First 3 pints of blood
Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
Foreign travel emergency coverage (up to plan limits, typically 80% after a $250 deductible, with a $50,000 lifetime maximum)
With Plan F, you have little to no out-of-pocket costs for covered services, offering peace of mind and predictable expenses.
Plan F covers nearly all Original Medicare gaps, including hospital and outpatient deductibles and the 20% Part B coinsurance. This means no copays for doctor visits and maximum financial protection. It remains a popular choice for those who qualify, especially in North Carolina, due to its comprehensive benefits.
Premiums vary by location, age, gender, tobacco use, and insurer. In North Carolina, the average monthly premium for Plan F is approximately $154 (as of recent data). Actual quotes depend on your specific details—our local agents can provide personalized rates.
Many insurers offer Plan F, all with identical benefits (standardized by Medicare). The only difference is the monthly premium. Comparing quotes from multiple providers is key to finding the best value.
If you’re eligible for Plan F or exploring options like Plan G, our experienced North Carolina Medicare agents can help compare plans, explain differences (e.g., Plan F vs. G), and guide you through enrollment.
