Finding the right health insurance plan starts with finding the right person to help you. Our Find an Agent tool lets you choose which licensed agent works with you based on specialties, reviews, and availability.
Finding the right health insurance plan starts with finding the right person to help you. At Health Plans of NC, we believe you should have the power to choose which agent works with you—not just be assigned to whoever's available.
That's why we created our Find an Agent tool. It lets you browse our team of licensed North Carolina health insurance agents, compare their specialties and experience, read genuine customer reviews, and schedule an appointment with the agent who best fits your needs.
Health insurance is personal. Your situation—your health conditions, your budget, your doctors, your family—is unique. The agent who helps you should understand your specific needs and have the expertise to address them.
When you choose your own agent, you can find someone who:
Specializes in the type of coverage you need: Whether you're turning 65 and need help with Medicare, shopping for ACA Marketplace plans, or looking for short-term coverage between jobs
Speaks your language: Communication is easier when you can discuss complex topics in your preferred language
It is located near you: A local agent understands your area's provider networks and may be available to meet in person
Has availability that works for your schedule: You can see when agents are available and book appointments at times that work for you.
Comes recommended by other customers: Real reviews from real clients help you know what to expect.
We offer two options depending on how much control you want over the process:
Option 1: Get a Quick Quote
If you want to get started fast, enter your zip code on our website to request a quote. We'll connect you with one of our knowledgeable North Carolina agents who can help you compare plans and find coverage that fits your needs and budget.
This is a great option if you're not sure what type of coverage you need, you want to explore your options, or you want to talk to someone quickly.
Option 2: Find an Agent Tool
If you want more control over who helps you, use our Find an Agent tool. This feature lets you browse all of our agents' profiles, filter by the criteria that matter to you, read customer reviews, and schedule an appointment directly with the agent you choose.
You're in the driver's seat—you decide who you work with based on the information that matters most to you.
Our Find an Agent page makes it easy to search, compare, and connect with the right agent for you:
1. Browse Agent Profiles
Each agent has a detailed profile that includes their photo, bio, specialties, spoken languages, certifications, licensing information, home base location, and availability. You can see at a glance what each agent brings to the table.
2. Filter by What Matters to You
Use our easy-to-use filters to narrow down your search:
Language: Find agents who speak Spanish, Korean, or other languages
Product type: Filter by Medicare, ACA/Marketplace, dental, vision, short-term, or other coverage types
Insurance carrier: Find agents who work with specific insurers like Blue Cross NC, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, or others
Certification: Look for agents with specific certifications, such as Medicare certification or ACA Marketplace certification
Location: Find agents based in your county or nearby areas
3. Read Customer Reviews
Each agent profile includes certified reviews and star ratings from other customers. See what people say about their experience—how helpful the agent was, how clearly they explained options, how responsive they were to questions. Reviews help you make an informed choice.
4. Check Availability and Schedule an Appointment
Once you find an agent you want to work with, check their availability and schedule an appointment directly through our website. Choose a time that works for your schedule—no phone tag, no waiting for a callback.
5. Contact Directly
Would you prefer to reach out on your own terms? Each agent profile includes their direct contact information—phone, email, and text options—so you can get in touch however works best for you.
Find the Right Expertise
Different agents specialize in various areas. Some focus exclusively on Medicare—helping people turning 65 understand their options, comparing Medicare Advantage vs. Medigap, and navigating enrollment periods. Others specialize in ACA Marketplace plans, employer group coverage, dental and vision, or short-term insurance.
Our Find an Agent tool lets you match your needs to an agent's expertise. If you're approaching 65, you can find an agent who works with Medicare every day. If you're self-employed and need individual coverage, you can find an agent who specializes in Marketplace plans.
Communicate in Your Preferred Language
Health insurance involves complex terminology and important decisions. Discussing these topics in your preferred language makes communication clearer and helps ensure you fully understand your options before making a decision.
Our team includes agents who speak multiple languages, and you can filter by language to find someone you'll be comfortable working with.
Work with Someone Local
Our agents are based throughout North Carolina—from the Charlotte metro to the Triangle, from the Triad to the coast. A local agent understands the provider networks in your area, knows which plans include your regional hospitals and health systems, and may be available to meet in person if that's your preference.
Our team members live and work in counties throughout the state, including:
Charlotte Metro: Mecklenburg, Union, Gaston, Lincoln, Iredell, and Rowan Counties
Triangle Area: Wake County and surrounding areas
Triad Area: Guilford and Davidson Counties
Coastal Region: New Hanover County and surrounding areas
Build a Long-Term Relationship
Health insurance isn't a one-time decision. Plans change, your needs change, and enrollment periods come around every year. When you find an agent you trust, you've got someone to call:
Each year during Open Enrollment to make sure you're still on the best plan for your situation
When your circumstances change—new job, marriage, baby, retirement, losing coverage
When you have questions about your coverage, claims, or costs
When you're approaching 65 and need to transition from employer or Marketplace coverage to Medicare
Your agent knows your situation and can provide quick, personalized recommendations because they're already familiar with your needs—not starting from scratch every time.
Whether you need help with ACA Marketplace plans or Medicare, knowing the enrollment dates helps you plan ahead:
ACA Marketplace (Individual and Family Plans):
Date | What Happens |
November 1, 2025 – January 15, 2026 | Open Enrollment for 2026 coverage |
December 15, 2025 | Deadline to enroll for coverage starting January 1, 2026 |
January 15, 2026 | Final deadline for 2026 enrollment (coverage starts February 1, 2026) |
Important: Starting in Fall 2026, Open Enrollment will end December 15 in most states (not January 15) due to federal rule changes. This change applies to enrollment for 2027 coverage.
2026 Subsidy Alert: Enhanced premium tax credits are set to expire at the end of 2025. Unless Congress extends them, many Marketplace enrollees may see significant premium increases for 2026. An agent can help you understand how these changes may affect your costs and explore your options.
Medicare:
Enrollment Period | Dates | What You Can Do |
Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) | October 15 – December 7 | Change Medicare Advantage or Part D plans for the following year (effective January 1) |
Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP) | January 1 – March 31 | Switch MA plans or return to Original Medicare (one change allowed) |
Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) | 7-month window around your 65th birthday | First-time enrollment in Medicare Parts A and B |
General Enrollment Period | January 1 – March 31 | Enroll in Part A or Part B if you missed your IEP (coverage starts July 1) |
Special Enrollment Periods: If you experience a qualifying life event—losing job-based coverage, getting married, having a baby, or moving—you may qualify to enroll outside these windows. An agent can help you determine your eligibility and deadlines.
Working with a Health Plans of NC agent doesn't cost you anything extra. Our agents are licensed professionals who are compensated by insurance companies through commissions—not by fees from you.
The premiums you pay are the same whether you enroll directly through an insurance company, through HealthCare.gov, or with help from one of our agents. And if you qualify for premium tax credits or other subsidies on Marketplace plans, you still receive them when enrolling through an agent.
You get expert guidance, personalized plan comparison, help with enrollment paperwork, and ongoing support—at no additional cost.

When is Open Enrollment for 2026?
For ACA Marketplace plans, Open Enrollment runs November 1, 2025, through January 15, 2026. Enroll by December 15, 2025, for coverage starting January 1, 2026. For Medicare, the Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2025, for changes effective January 1, 2026.
What if I need coverage outside of Open Enrollment?
You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you experience a qualifying life event such as losing job-based coverage, getting married, having a baby, or moving. An agent can help you determine if you qualify and guide you through the process.
